In order to help students understand theSchool's undergraduate mentoring system and further improve the quality of teaching, the launch meeting of our 2021 undergraduate mentoring system was successfully held on 31st May. Associate Professor Li Yibin, Dr. Li Liang, Chang Xiaoyan, Liu Qian and Mi Pengju, Dr. Wu Bingke from the Belt and Road Research Centre, Teaching Secretary Wang Wanjun and all undergraduates of Class 2021 attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by the Teaching Secretary Wang Wanjun.
At the beginning of the conference, Mr. Li Yibin introduced the basic information of the undergraduate mentorship programme. He elaborated from two perspectives: the role of the mechanism and the duties of the tutors. He pointed out that mentors should cultivate students' positive professional thinking and provide specific guidance for different students' situations. The mentors should not only actively guide students to participate in various research competitions and social practices, but also provide assistance to students in their graduation thesis. At the same time, he also suggested that students and their supervisors choose each other, and that students can check their teachers' research fields from the official website and choose their supervisors according to their development direction and interests.
Following this, Ms Wang Wanjun introduced to the students how to fill in the tutor selection volunteer form and the relevant matters they should pay attention to when filling in the form. Afterwards, each teacher briefly explained their personal information and research direction in turn, so that students could get to know them better. Finally, in the interactive session between teachers and students, students actively asked questions and the teachers answered them one by one. The conference came to a successful conclusion with a group photo of the students and teachers.
The conference introduced the implementation plan of the School' s undergraduate mentoring system, helping students understand the School's talent training model and mobilising their initiative. This not only helps to promote communication between students and teachers, strengthen students' knowledge and interest in their majors, but also shows the unique school characteristics and further promotes the construction of the school in a far-reaching way.
